Mood Board

My mood board is based on 90's era rap. As you can see in my opinion the best two rappers ever lived but now have passed are Tupac and Biggie Smalls, this is the reason why I put one picture of the both of them in it in the middle of my mood board. Underneath them I chose to put N.W.A the group from Compton that was very known in the 90's, after a while they split up and the rappers went their separate ways but they first all started rapping in this group. The bottom three groups are D-12, Wu-Tang Clan and Terror Squad. I placed Wu-Tang Clan in the middle as they were one of the biggest groups back in the 90's,in fact most of the rappers on this mood board were inspired by them. Also on the side of N.W.A is Jay-Z also known as Hove, and on the right side DMX. The reason I put Snoop-Dogg next to Biggie and Tupac is because they were close and they respected eachother as rappers the most. I placed P.Diddy on the right side, looks like on the shoulder of Biggie Smalls because the two rappers were connected as P.Diddy signed Biggie Smalls into the 'Badboys' record label. I did the same for Eminem and Dr.dre on top of 50 cent but they didn't sign 50 cent but they helped him out a lot. I put Nas at the top right because he is a very taleneted rapper that knew Eminem and Dr.dre. Big L is located below Nas as they knew eachother aswell but sadly Big L has passed away.

Evaluation- Preliminary Task

Evaluation Preliminary task:

Conventions are the basic rules that the magazine have to follow to make the magazine recognisable for example having the masthead at the top of the front page would be a convention. Therefore I think my magazine follows the typical conventions of the magazine as it has a basic layout of the masthead at the top of the page and the cover lines around it, but also the written information text is a developing another convention of the information boxes to be around the cover lines.

In general I was original and only used the blue and yellow colour for text as I wanted to attract the audience through this as some people might know the school colours so even if they only glimpsed the magazine they could think it’s about this school and go pick it up, this would make the magazine eye catching. Also the front cover image is applying to the school life as the model is reading a book, showing that education is good at the certain school used. I used Standard English, no slang used at all to show sophistication in the magazine. The fact that the model on the front page is wearing a shirt and tie, which informs the audience he is taking the student life seriously, looks smart to show his personality towards studying. The masthead is in a large sized font to catch the audience’s eye. The importance of choosing the right font for your magazine is massive as different fonts represent different things and target different audiences. For example my font is a typical Calibri font which targets mature adults that are around in their 40’s and their children attend this school.

When constructing theses pages I have learnt how to use Photoshop which was very confusing at first but after a few lessons I got the hang of it but still not completely as there are a lot of different tools that I didn’t have to use that I could in the future e.g. magnetic lasso and elliptical marquee

Overall in my opinion I think that my magazine is strong in design. This is because the layout is a typical magazine layout but it has slight original twist to it also the main image is very strong conveys a strong message to the audience also in my contents page the photography is strong as it shows the other students talents and the school main talented areas.

Analysis of Preliminary photos

This picture will be used in the contents page referring to the music department. It informs the audience about what the school has to offer e.g. the access to musical instruments. It also shows the skills the students have to offer.

This picture will be based in the contents page referring to +Rock Challenge UK describing the whole activity. It will also discuss the skills the student develop whilst competing in the activity.

  

 

This picture will be used in my contents page. It will refer to the schools subject programmes and the average pass rate of Finchley Catholic High School. It shows an overhead look of the student studying a certain subject.

 

 

 

 

This picture shows a student studying down on a bench on a sunny day. I will use it as my front cover as it shows a smart student studying outside in a nice environment with the sun shining down on him . This will inform the audience of the environment the A-Level students can study in.
